Reminders

1) Superseded HLT First Aid Units:

Advice published by ASQA about the delivery of superseded HLT First Aid units can be found on their website here.

2) Grace Period Reminder:

Previously, we allowed students a 90 day period to complete a Pool Lifeguard Re-accreditation (often referred to as a Grace Period). During this 90 day period, the lifeguard was unable to be working. The 90 day policy was unique to Queensland and does not exist in other States, it is also not aligned with the GSPO. Regulators are looking at lifeguard training (and in-service training records) when an incident occurs, and we have found many lifeguards have not completed  in-service training, which is outlined within the GSPO (refer to SV 9.6 in the GSPO). Meaning if a lifeguard completes a re-accreditation after a certificate expires (i.e. 1.25 years) with no in-service training, it potentially places risk back to us and the Trainer with litigation. Lifeguard should have completed at least four in-service training sessions annually.

For the above reasons and to align with other states, we have withdrawn this policy from 15 September 2022. Students will need to apply for approval if they wish to complete a Pool Lifeguard Re-accreditation Course after the expiry of their current certification. To assist, we have developed a form:

Form: Request to complete re-accreditation after expiry of Pool Lifeguard Certificate (for participants to complete).

Please ensure you inform all your Pool Lifeguard Participants of this change moving forward. Please refer to SV 9.6.7 in the GSPO.

3) Participant Bookings:

Please ensure any participant that is attending a course is registered (electronically) at www.lifesavingtraining.com.au. There has been an increased number of participants not being electronically registered in to courses. Electronic registration allows for very quick issuance of certificates and collection of correct information. If we need to rely on the paper workbooks, this causes delays and sometime non-issuance of certificates if we cannot make contact with the participant due to poor handwriting of students.

4) First Aid reasonable adjustments through COVID Ends:

All reasonable adjustments implemented during the pandemic should be removed before the 1 September 2022. Please see the Statement on the delivery of First Aid Training.
